The government of Pakistan granted the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) award to the U.S. Army Chief of the Pacific, General Charles A. Flynn, making him the recipient of the second-highest military award of the country. Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, General Asim Munir, awarded him the honor during his recent visit to Pakistan while acknowledging the General's remarkable contributions and informing him that Pakistan is a phenomenal counter-terror partner.

Flynn's visit emphasized the deepening defense relations in addition to the cooperative undertakings between the two countries. Pakistan and U.S. relations were focused on the regional interactions and the need to work together on counter-terrorism during the visit. The Hilal-e-Imtiaz award is bestowed upon persons, including military officers, for exceptional services in the field of Pakistan's security, interest, international peace, or other significant publicly valuable work. General Flynn’s award further reinforces the discourse that Pakistan plays a pivotal role in the war on terror, a testament to which was Flynn's remarks in which he referred to the country as a key partner.
