Post

All segments of India’s electric vehicle retail market expanded in October 2025, driven by exceptional growth in the case of passenger and commercial vehicles, though modest growth registered in the two- and three-wheelers.

FADA’s most recent data indicated the electric passenger vehicle (PV) segment sold 18,055 units in October, a 57.5% increase from October 2023’s 11,464 units. Thus, the segment recorded a strong year-over-year growth in retail sales, making it one of the most successful electric PV segments in India.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. continued to be the market leader although it dropped to 7,239 units, the rest of the market players sales were also outstanding with JSW MG Motor India Pvt Ltd (4,549 units) and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (3,911 units) also being in the top three.

The most notable year-on-year growth was recorded by Kia India, Hyundai Motor India, BYD India, and BMW India and the Vietnamese EV maker, VinFast which entered the market by selling 131 units in October.

The electric commercial vehicle (CV) segment posted the highest percentage growth. This segment expanded 105.9% year-on-year making it quite successful and resulting in 1,767 units sold compared with 858 units a year earlier.

In this segment, Tata Motors Ltd. led the category with 603 units sold, followed by Mahindra Group (306 units) and then Switch Mobility Automotive Ltd. (152 units) and Euler Motors Pvt. Ltd. (151 units).

Additionally, PMI Electromobility Solutions and Olectra Greentech Ltd also contributed positively to the sharp increase.

Electric three-wheeler sales rose to 70,604 units, which represents a 5.1 percent increase from the 67,173 units sold in October 2024, realized up to 2025.

Based on the FADA data, the Mahindra Group performed the best in this market, selling 11,860 units. This was followed by Bajaj Auto Ltd (8,033 units), YC Electric Vehicle (3,500 units), TVS Motor Company Ltd (2,862 units), and Saera Electric Auto Pvt Ltd (2,264 units).

Dilli Electric Auto, Piaggio Vehicles, and Mini Metro also sold units.

In the electric 2W segment, sales rose from 140,225 units in October 2024 to 143,887 units in October 2025, representing a 2.6 percent increase.

Bajaj Auto Ltd remained the top in the list with 31,246 units, and was followed by TVS Motor Company Ltd (29,515 units), Ather Energy Ltd (28,101 units), and Ola Electric Technologies Pvt Ltd (16,036 units).

Hero MotoCorp, Greaves Electric Mobility, BGauss Auto, River Mobility, and PUR Energy Pvt Ltd also contributed to these numbers.

In October 2025, the EV retail volumes in India increased in all segments compared to the previous year, and this was partly due to the increased popularity and interest in clean mobility.

Although two- and three-wheelers witnessed incremental gains—potentially due to their large base—passenger and commercial EVs became the primary growth drivers, propelled by the introduction of new products, the electrification of fleets, and the gradual development of charging infrastructure across the country.
