Israel Announces Brief Halt To Fighting In Gaza To Enable Humanitarian Aid

To aid with the humanitarian needs of the people, Israel has now committed to introducing “tactical pauses” to Gaza's Military Zones where some of the most critical aid deliveries from international organizations are needed. The pauses aim to facilitate aid from 10 am to 8 pm local time starting Sunday until further notice. This concerns the regions of al-Mawasi, Deir el-Balah, and Gaza City, which are not actively being targeted by ground units.

Based on the cooperation with the United Nations and other related entities, this measure has been designed to reverse the destructive impact of the unrelenting siege on the Palestinian territories. In conjunction with the pauses, Israel has also committed to designating “secured corridors” from 6 am to 11 pm to permit the unencumbered movement of UN and other aid convoys with food and medicines. The Israeli military reported that these actions are in the frame of the persistent Gaza border policies which are aimed at the restiction of humanitarian aid.

The announcement comes amidst growing global scrutiny and numerous accounts of people dying from starvation in Gaza. The United Nations has documented these alarming conditions alongside several other aid organizations who are advocating for a complete ceasefire and free flow of humanitarian aid. While these humanitarian pauses are meant to enhance the flow of aid, the UN has raised concerns in the past regarding the safety and efficacy of airdrop aid supplies, voicing the need to enhance traditional aid delivery. Israel insists that combat operations continue against Hamas alongside these humanitarian efforts and claims that starvation is not widespread in the territory, partly blaming the crisis narrative on Hamas propaganda.
